Here we go…  There are a little over 2,300 raw photos sitting on my hard drive that I am personally responsible for.  Less than 200 of those photos have made it to my regular DA account.  It's time to put some of the leftovers to use – with a stress on some.  DA's Stock Photo department is a pit of despair – finding good images requires the patience to wade through a wasteland of unwanted photos.  So – at the very least – I'm going to be selective about what I put up here.  So, have at it; read and follow the Terms of Use posted with each image, and make something that you'll be proud of.

Hello, Your page is somewhat of a godsend!

I'm currently working on a photomanipulation in the same vein as my latest one, and I can't see your page being anything less than obscenely useful!

I have to :+devwatch: this.

used your stock here - thanks!
you want to sue me for using your photos? I told you that I used them right/ Any way if you post them as stock photos you have to follow the rules of deviant and not make yours.

That's all.
First of all, I never said anything about suing you, and I don’t intend to. I find it extremely distasteful that you refuse to grant such a simple request as giving me credit for my work on the image that it appears on after I have gone to the trouble to provide you with useful images. I also find it distasteful that you have been rude to me about refusing my request after I tried my best to be polite to you when I first brought up the issue. (I even apologized for inconveniencing you!) And finally, I CAN specify conditions under which anyone may use my artwork. I quote from the DeviantArt description of the stock gallery:

NOTE: There are a number of different types of stock imagery licenses, and deviantART does not currently have an in-depth system for making this process any simpler for deviants. Make sure you are very clear about what KIND of license you are extending to other artists when you submit into this category. You must extend some public use license if you intend to submit here; otherwise, your submission belongs in the Photography gallery.

I believe that the Terms of Use that I include with each image clearly explains that while I do extend public license, I require that I am clearly credited on the work where my art is used, and I am well within my rights to do this. Once again, I ask that you abide by this simple request. While it gives me no pleasure, I will pursue a resolution to this through DA’s established abuse system if you refuse to follow the guidelines that I have set for the use of my work. I will give you 48 hours in which to do this. I wish no ill-will to you, sir, but I must defend my rights.
Look. Defend your right, but how do you except me to credit you exactly? I mentioned your name to my comment AND posted a note to you informing you of the usage of your photos. I think there is a misunedrstading but anyway. Sorry about that. Waiting for your reply.

I have just read your terms and conditions more clearly. Sorry I can mention your name on the artwork. None does this. If you still want to defend your conditions, it will go, no prob...
Ok, I’m glad you’re willing to talk about this; I’d like to resolve this without any animosity between us. Perhaps I should explain why I make such a request; I make it because I believe that all artists who contribute to a piece of artwork should be given credit for it in a way that will last. A footnote in a comment is physically separate from the artwork – and thus, if you decide to display that art somewhere else, or someone saves it to their hard-drive, then there is no guarantee that you will again give credit to the people who made your artwork possible, or that the person who downloaded it will know what artists worked to bring them that image. But if the names of all those involved are on the work itself, then they can never be separated from it, as long as it remains whole. When I make art, I put a great deal of time and energy into it. When I give it away, like I do with my stock account, I ask only that my name – my pseudonym – be included on art that uses my work, so that my contribution will always be remembered as my contribution. This is not selfish – this is fair. For me, as an artist, this is a deep moral conviction. I extend this courtesy to other artists whenever I use their work (see for yourself.), and I only ask that it be shown to me in return.

I can see that you intended to do no wrong, and that you are not out for spite. Indeed, I like how you used my work – the finished product is very pleasing, and it would be a shame to waste it. But I cannot back down from my convictions, which are also founded in law. One solution would be to sign that piece along the border, and include the names of all those who contributed to it. This can be done minimally, without detracting from the piece. It would give you and all those who made your art possible credit for the work, as long as it remains intact. In the end, the choice is yours, and I will not judge you for it. But I must be true to my convictions and rights. The 48-hour offer still stands, please think about it.
